Purchase a spiral bound book from Borders, Target, WalMart or make one yourself.
Mine is approximately 7” across, 10” high. I made mine using chipboard for the
covers and card stock for the inside pages. The pages are not altered but instead
can be used to attach your xmas cards after the holiday season or use as a “sign
in” book if you are having a xmas get-together. Cover the slides using: 1. old xmas wrapping paper that you’ve been keeping for years 2. rust and patina some slides. Doesn’t matter whether they are paper, plastic or metal. Purchase the kits at Michaels or JoAnne’s 3. scraps of fabric 4. scrapbook paper 5. film strips 6. cool looking cardboard slides trimmed with a colored pen 7. rubber stamp directly onto a metal slide Alter the slides: 1. use up some of those charms you “had” to have but keep saving 2. old buttons 3. dymo tape 4. bottle caps 5. flowers, beads 6. tags 7. rubber stamping 8. twill 9. bingo pieces 10. pen nibs Glue: Remember to use wet, heavy glue when gluing metal to paper [E6000] or when gluing anything of substance [bottle caps, heavy charms]. Use stick glue, scrappy glue, Golden gel medium when adhering paper to paper. Once you decide how you want to alter your slides, the rest is a piece of cake. From start to finish it takes 4 hours, that includes tying on the 20 pieces of fibre and ribbon on the spiral. This is a fun, fun project. You’ll have time to make books for all your friends in time for Christmas! |

Using the new line of Catherine Moore rubber stamps and Maureen Blackman paper, I made 4 vintage Christmas cards. |
Merry Memories: Fold 8-1/2 x 11 dark blue card stock in half. Tear a piece of antique ledger paper a tad smaller than the card. Stamp with [Treasure Cay] dot stamp, using brown ink. Tear a piece of colorful xmas fabric a tad smaller than the ledger paper. Tear a piece of sheet music at an angle. Rubber stamp Peace on Earth [Catherine Moore] with black ink on piece of transparency and Merry Memories on a piece of the music paper. Adhere all to the blue card stock. Layer the Merry Memories over a piece of holiday ribbon; attach with eyelets. Finish off with blue, turquoise buttons and velvet ribbons draped with colorful fibres. For the inside I stamped a holiday message on a coffee stained tag and made a pocket out of xmas fabric that I scanned in to make paper. Rubber stamp the pocket with Floral foam stamp [Making Memories] using light yellow paint. |
Peace: Fold 8-1/2 x 11 white card stock in half. Cover the front and back with Maureen Blackman lace paper. Cut out scallops at the bottom so it looks like real lace. Layer a piece of ledger scrap over a piece of black chipboard, inking the edges of the paper first. Rubber stamp Swan Coach [Catherine Moore] with black in on white shiny card stock. Cut out. Adhere to chipboard with pop dots. Drape a little wreath over the swan neck. Embellish with chipboard number, some wire and a button. For the inside I stamped Peace [Impression Obsession] on a scrap of the left over ledger paper, added red card stock at the bottom, a piece of old lace, rick-rack and a button. |
Happy Holidays: Fold 8-1/2 x 11 black card stock in half. Cut a piece of red card stock a tad smaller than the card. With black or gold ink, stamp with Star [Printworks], Star [Stamp Cabana], Med Background Text [Stamp in the Hand], Harlequin [Paper Impressions], Dot Stamp [Treasure Cay] on the red card stock. Cut out an old post card image and layer over black card stock; add a couple gold corner pieces. Type the description Joy Ride onto a piece of coffee stained paper. Layer some red mulberry paper and green handmade paper. Rubber stamp Tree Shopping [Catherine Moore] with black ink on piece of white shiny card stock. Cut out car. Add a couple rhinestones to the tires, a twig and some green “stuff” to the top of the car. Rub on the words Happy holidays [Making Memories] in the bottom corner. For the inside I stamped Seasons Greetings [Printworks] on a piece of red tissue paper and attached with eyelets. Drape some old lace and buttons along the edge. |
A Wonderful Christmas: Fold 8-1/2 x 11 white card stock in half. Layer with a piece of bird paper [Catherine Moore]. Punch 4 holes in the fold. With black ink stamp wishing wonderful xmas [Santa Rosa] on red mulberry paper. Cut a piece of red card stock 4x5-1/4, black card stock 3-3/8 x 4-5/8, white card stock 3-1/8 x 4-1/2. Rubber stamp, with black ink, Santa-Catherine Moore; once dry, polish with brown shoe polish to give it a rustic look. Adhere a twig and some cute buttons. For the inside I stamped joy to the world [Stamp Francisco] on red card stock, added black corner pieces. Layered this over old ledger paper. Rubber stamped xmas lights in red. Tie off with 10-12 pieces of ribbon and/or fibre. Norma Kooi 11.05. |
