My kids use to say "My mom's an artist and she waits tables too...", yep that was
the story of my life, alright. I did go to art school and loved every minute, I
was successful, had a number of awards and gallery showings... unfortunately
school never taught us how to sell ourselves and I was NOT successful at that.
I struggled, I worked and finally I noticed I had time to do art again...
that was a year ago. Since then I have been trying very hard to catch up, learning
as much as I can taking workshops when it is affordable and doing a lot of
looking at artists I like. I still feel as though I have miles to go before I catch
up but I'm in for the long haul this time around. I love mixed media and especially
the postal art. In art school a friend gave me a box of vintage postal
stamps that were out of date and I've been using them ever since, on paper on
clay on just about anything that can be stamped. I love drawing, clay, photo images, and printmaking and tend do some of each in most all my work. Even when I did ceramics I used a lot of mixed media. It's a good medium for me because I'm a bit scattered and unfocused and I like a lot of different things and detail to look at, so my pieces tend to be, as a kind person said to me, cluttered, but in a good way...!! I'm taking that as a compliment. I tend towards unusual or emotional images that evoke a certain feelings or conjure up interesting juxtapositions. It's still hard for me to call myself an artist......... Claudia Roulier. 06 05 see my work: Ebasqart Items for sale |
